This weekend workshop enables participants to embark on a transformative and creative journey with their developing paintings, beginning from a position of openness to the process.
The approach evokes memories, unconscious elements, and unexpected technical pathways. 
We will explore and discuss formal and other questions that can emerge from such painterly journeys into the unknown: How can we integrate and organise what appears unexpected, random, and elusive into a meaningful painting? How can we effectively convey the outcome of a personal experience to other viewers? There will also be time to examine works by artists who adopt a similar approach.

Where I come from as a painter and tutor:

For a long time, I have been captivated by both the potential and the actual fact of change, transformation and metamorphosis.  The often unpredictable outcomes of such developments can evoke fear as much as new perceptions of life. 
How, in the 2-dimensional world of painted works on canvas or paper, can we manifest such experiences of human consciousness in time?
Psychological and philosophical perspectives strongly influence my approach to painting. 

I encourage participants to keep an open and spontaneous approach with colours, materials and feelings to help create meaningful visuals, while also putting thought and reflection at the heart of this process. 
Rather than ‘anything goes’ what emerges is a discovery of each individual’s originality, based on reflective and honest engagement.
